These are challenging time as we face concerns and impacts of the coronavirus COVID-19, so we want to share important links that may help both your business and personal needs.


It has been recommended that we put information on our website rather than email as to not stress the bandwidth on the Internet, so please check the site often for updates.

Small businesses around the state have a growing number of resources available to assist them in recovering from economic losses as a result of the COVID-19 virus. The most recent support came from the U.S. Small Business Administration statewide Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) declaration, requested earlier this week by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, with the support of the MEDC and Michigan Small Business Development Center. The application for disaster loan assistance is available at https://disasterloan.sba.gov/ela/ . For businesses looking for more information on how to apply for an SBA EIDL loan or whether it is something they should consider, visit michiganbusiness.org/covid19.


MI SMALL BUSINESS RELIEF PROGRAM: https://www.michiganbusiness.org/covid19/

The program authorizes the Michigan Economic Development Corporation to provide up to $10 million in small business grants and $10 million in small business loans to support businesses facing drastic reductions in cash flow and the continued support of their workforce.The MEDC anticipates that at least 1,100 businesses across the state will benefit from this program. The Michigan Small Business Relief Program will be a top priority for the MEDC, with funds being available no later than April 1, 2020.

The bill expands the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) to provide temporary additional reasons for leave related to the Coronavirus/COVID-19 crisis and to provide pay for such FMLA leave beyond two weeks. In addition, a new federal paid sick leave law has been put in place, whereby employers would need to provide up to 80 hours (or the equivalent of two weeks for part-time employees) of paid sick leave to employees for Coronavirus/COVID-19 issues.


Penalties and Interest Waived for 30 days for Some Sales, Use and Withholding Tax Filers. Small businesses that have experienced disrupted operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic now have additional time to make their sales, use and withholding tax monthly payment, according to the Michigan Department of Treasury. Effective immediately, small businesses scheduled to make their monthly sales, use and withholding tax payments on March 20 can postpone filing and payment requirements until April 20. The state Treasury Department will waive all penalties and interest for 30 days. Read more
