Hello MBIA Members,

These are challenging time as we face concerns and impacts of the coronavirus COVID-19, so we want to share important links that may help both your business and personal needs.

It has been recommended that we put information on our website rather than email as to not stress the bandwidth on the Internet, so please check the site often for updates. As your Association, we are here to help, so please do not hesitate to reach out for additional assistance.

Small businesses around the state have a growing number of resources available to assist them in recovering from economic losses as a result of the COVID-19 virus. The most recent support came from the U.S. Small Business Administration statewide Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) declaration, requested earlier this week by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, with the support of the MEDC and Michigan Small Business Development Center. The application for disaster loan assistance is available at https://disasterloan.sba.gov/ela/. For businesses looking for more information on how to apply for an SBA EIDL loan or whether it is something they should consider, visit michiganbusiness.org/covid19.

The bill expands the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) to provide temporary additional reasons for leave related to the Coronavirus/COVID-19 crisis and to provide pay for such FMLA leave beyond two weeks. In addition, a new federal paid sick leave law has been put in place, whereby employers would need to provide up to 80 hours (or the equivalent of two weeks for part-time employees) of paid sick leave to employees for Coronavirus/COVID-19 issues.
