Thinking about renting boats next summer? Renting boats in Michigan requires a Livery Permit

Tuesday, December 12, 2017   (0 Comments)
Many MBIA members rent boats, and others are considering this as an additional source of revenue.  Please note if this is something you are currently undertaking or will in the future, there are several things you should consider.  First be sure to check with your insurance agent and attorney to be sure you are covered for this type of activity.  Additionally, you must obtain a Livery Permit.  More information on this permit, including the paperwork, can be found on the state‚Äôs website.  This regulation is dictated by Act 451 of 1994.  Sec. 44516 states (1) A boat livery shall not rent a motorized livery boat unless the livery boat has a current annual inspection decal, plate, or tab as provided under section 44518. (2) Regardless of whether the livery boats are motorized or non-motorized, a person shall not operate a boat livery except as authorized by a permit issued pursuant to part 13. The application for a boat livery permit can be found at: file:///U:/JMorin/Jorden/Enews/PR1930_265483_7%20(1).pdf
