WSIA Announces Rich Kolb As New Subject Matter Expert

ORLANDO, FL (May 20, 2020) –– In an effort to help with concerns regarding Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS), the Water Sports Industry Association (WSIA) has been searching for a Subject Matter Expert and is pleased to welcome Rich Kolb of Tavares, Florida to the team.

Kolb comes to the WSIA with a long history in the marine industry. His experience working with Volvo Penta, Woodward Controls, Outboard Marine Corp (OMC) and Marine Engineering proves valuable. He also served on the Board of Directors for the American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC).

Kolb graduated from Northwestern University with a Masters in Engineering Management and is responsible for 31 US Patents. While at Volvo Penta, his core focus was on emissions and regulations for marine engines. This earned him the Environmental Leadership Award from the NMMA for his greenhouse gas emissions testing program. At OMC, he was responsible for managing the corporation’s line of two stroke outboards, and at Marine Engineering he directed the design of multiple new products associated with marine propulsion systems.

As a member of ABYC, Kolb has been the Chair of the Steering and Controls Project Technical Committee and has served as a member of the Technical Board of Directors. He continues to serve on the AIS Committee and has written the proposed Standards for AIS Decontamination Trailers. After hearing the concerns of the ABYC AIS committee, Kolb went back to Volvo Penta and recommended the use of external engine flush adapters. These then became standard on Volvo Penta engines to aid in the flushing of engines at AIS decontamination stations.

Kolb has already started with a “scope of work” outline that has been approved by the WSIA’s towboat committee. “The towboat committee looks forward to working with Rich,” says committee chair Cory Dugger with Malibu Boats. “We were introduced to Mr. Kolb during our annual Summit meeting in Lake Tahoe this last Feb and were pleased with his knowledge and background.”

The WSIA is a 40-year-old marine industry trade association that represents manufacturers in the towed water sports field. The WSIA works closely with the NMMA, the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators and the ABYC and is dedicated to do all it can in the prevention of the spread of AIS.
