Notice to Boaters from MBIA

As boating activity resumes, we must remember we are still in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and remain under a “Stay at Home” order until May 15, 2020. However, we have been allowed the opportunity to safely use our boats. Mandates to wear masks and social distancing remain in effect and the rules for boating activity have changed.

Please note that if you do not adhere to these rules as well as any additional posted rules at marinas, you will be asked to leave the marina and/or may face ticketing and fines by local law enforcement. Boating is a privilege we stand to lose if we do not act appropriately.

All Boaters:

  • Maintain social distancing at all costs as recommended by the CDC
  • If you don’t feel well stay home or call a doctor.
  • In order to avoid the spread of the virus, it is recommended that you boat with only those in your household – share the new rules with your family.
  • Do not raft up with other boaters or congregate on sandbars.
  • If you see other boaters who are not acting appropriately, remind them of their responsibility and how their actions could result in bans on boating.

At Marinas:

  • In order to avoid the spread of the virus, do not invite anyone outside your immediate household to your boat or the marina.
  • Wear a mask until you have departed on your boat and are out on the water.
  • Do not socialize or congregate on the docks – get on your boat and go.
  • Get into your vessel quickly to help keep the docks clear.
  • Wait until the dock is clear if you are unable to stay 6 feet from your fellow boaters.
  • Do not board any boat other than your own.
  • Be prepared for closed common spaces and buildings. Order parts and gear for curbside pickup.
  • Respect social distancing rules for all marina staff onsite.
  • Abide by any additional regulations posted by the marina which may not be included here.

If you enjoy getting out on the water, take these rules seriously so you don’t lose the opportunity to go boating.
