The Case for Moving the Detroit Boat Show to January in 2020.

Dear MBIA Member,

As you know, the MBIA is dedicated to advancing, promoting and protecting boating in Michigan. MBIA produces 3 association owned boat shows to fund the Association’s work on your behalf, including our lobbying efforts in Lansing and Washington D.C., our educational programming at RBEC, and our Grow Boating efforts to bring more boaters to our market.

We also produce these three boat shows as a member service to you. We strive each year to create a positive exhibiting experience, a profitable environment for you, and a first-class boat show experience for your customers.

The recent decision to move the Detroit Boat Show (DBS) dates to January was made in the best interest of the DBS and our member exhibitors. We realize this change does not come without challenges, but the challenges of the February dates were determined to be greater by the Boat Show Advisory Committee, a committee of your peers. The committee includes non-board exhibitors, board member exhibitors and staff. We are grateful to these individuals who volunteer precious hours to help the MBIA staff throughout the year. In this case, like all others, the committee thoughtfully and thoroughly discussed the pros and cons of the new opportunities and the new challenges.

If you would like more detail on the process and reasoning behind the decision, please go to MBIA.org.

Please mark your calendar for the following DBS dates moving forward:

2020, January 18–26

2021, January 16 -24

2022, January 15-23

2023, January 21-29

2024, January 20-28

2025, January 18-26

Again, we understand this change comes with challenges for some of our exhibitors, and we are committed to help mitigate these as best we can whenever we can. Our goal will always be to create a world-class event for attendees, positive exhibiting experience for our members, and a premier selling environment to maximizing the return on investment for all who partner in the production of this show.

As always, we appreciate your membership support, and please let us know how we can help you moving forward.
