Opening weekend of the Detroit Boat Show shows good signs for sales

The Detroit Boat Show opened Saturday to an excited crowd of show-goers following a ribbon cutting celebrating the 60th anniversary of the event.

Show Manager Nicki Polan, MBIA Chairman Tom Haag, along with other MBIA Board Members and Detroit dignitaries, including Warren C. Evans cut the red ribbon opening the doors to a crowd of eager attendees who got the first glimpse of the 2018 Detroit Boat Show. The show covering nearly 500,000 sq. ft. of space at Cobo Center is the largest show in years and one of the largest Detroit Boat Show’s to date. More than 100 exhibitors are featuring more than 90 new model boats debuting to the Detroit market.

“Exhibitors are reporting increased sales activity, with more leads gained and product sold after just two days of the show,” Nicki Polan, show manager said. “Along with the hundreds of boats, attendees and the media are enjoying the entertainment from Rail Jam Wakeboarding and the famous Twiggy, the Waterskiing Squirrel, both performed to standing-room only crowds all weekend.”

“We garnered more leads the first weekend than the entire show last year, and last year was a phenomenal show for us,” said Jeanne Cunningham from Tiki Republic.

“We were extremely impressed with the traffic and the amount of people who were ready to buy this weekend at the show,” said Joann Hilden with Blue Lagoon Boating Center. “If you’re in the market to buy – the time is now. Manufacturers are already selling out of boats for the year, so buy or order your boat now to get on the water this summer.”

The Detroit Boat Show runs through February 25 at Cobo Center. Tickets and hotel accommodations at the Courtyard by Marriott are available at www.detroitboatshow.net.  HOURS: Saturday: 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.; Sunday & Monday: 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.; Tuesday through Friday: 3 p.m. – 9 p.m.  Parking is available at Cobo Center and surrounding lots.  The Detroit Boat Show is owned and produced by the Michigan Boating Industries Association (MBIA), the voice of boating in Michigan. Revenue generated from this event is returned to fund boater’s interests via MBIA’s programs and services. For more information visit Detroitboatshow.net.
