MBIA Announces up to $20k contribution to RBIEF

Wednesday, June 14, 2017   (0 Comments)

At their recent June Meeting, the Michigan Boating Industries Association Board of Directors voted to contribute $10,000 to the Recreational Boating Industries Educational Foundation, plus pledge an additional $10,000 as a matching grant to help other donors commit to this important educational effort for Michigan’s boating industry.

“We are pleased to support RBIEF as it is a true benefit to our members and addresses a critical industry need,” said MBIA Board Chairman Tom Haag, vice president of Colony Marine in St. Clair Shores.  “Our goal is to create awareness for the many jobs available in our industry, and help fill the employee gap and to build marine education programs in Michigan.”

“We are proud of the support RBIEF has provided to so many people interested in our industry,” said President of RBIEF Jim Coburn of Coburn & Associates in Macomb. “We hope this matching grant inspires stakeholders to donate what they’re able, knowing it will be matched by this MBIA grant.” Since its inception, the fund has distributed $354,396 to deserving students and MBIA members for standard college or continuing education efforts.

RBIEF, a not-for-profit 501(c)3 corporation, was founded in 1986 to provide financial support for education, training and professional development in the recreational marine trades. Specifically, RBIEF’s purpose is to offer financial assistance through full or matching tuition and program funding for MBIA members, member’s employees, family and students for industry education and/or college tuition.  In memory of one of RBIEF’s Founding Directors, the Gregory P. Krueger Scholarship started in 2016.
