Gov. Rick Snyder makes reappointments to the State Waterways Commission
Gov. Rick Snyder announced the reappointments of James Hansen of Escanaba and Nicki Polan of White Lake to the State Waterways Commission.
Housed within the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, the seven-member commission is an advisory body responsible for the acquisition, construction and maintenance of recreational harbors, channels, docking and launching facilities and administration of commercial docks in the Straits of Mackinac.
"I thank James and Nicki for their continued commitment to this commission and to maintaining Michigan’s waterways," Snyder said.
Polan is the executive director of the Michigan Boating Industries Association. She is treasurer of the Michigan Clean Marina Foundation, a board member of the Lake St. Clair Tourism Initiative and secretary of the Recreational Boating Industries Educational Foundation. Polan holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and economics from Michigan State University and a master’s degree in business management and marketing from Walsh College. She will continue to represent owners and operators of a harbor or marina.
Appointees will serve three-year terms expiring Sept. 18, 2019. Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
